K-9 Robbie

Robbie is a Belgian Malinois, which looks a lot like the better-known German Shepard.  The Malinois usually weighs between 60-65 pounds and has a life span around 10-12 years.  Robbie has been with the City Police department for since 2002.
Robbie was trained by Tom Brennan, a professional in Lawrence, Kansas. Officer Ron Vagher attended a weeklong course in Lawrence with Robbie prior to his arrival in Ulysses.  His commands are given in Dutch and he is very obedient to his master.
Officer Vagher works Robbie out on a regular basis and his training continues year round. Three areas that Robbie focuses on is his drug smelling abilities, tracking and bite commands.  Most professionally trained dogs have a working life span around five to seven years.
